Mr Blank Toys: Upcoming Events

Before the weekend officially begins I wanted to just let everyone know about a couple of local events I will be attending as “Mr Blank Toys” over the next few weekends, one of which I will be hosting…

MARCH 24th – 7pm
“ART/TOY” Gallery + Sound Performances
@ JOKER JOKER Gallery
(145 Vine Street, Athens GA)

There will be a special event happening at the coolest alt-gallery, the JOKER JOKER Gallery in Athens GA, and YOU ARE INVITED! Come out and see some great 2D and 3D “Art/Toy” inspired art, out of this world sound art performances, and a little puppet peep show theatre! Featuring artists from NY, NJ, UK, Mexico City, NC, GA and more… I will have some figure prototypes on display, plus six new never before seen shadow box art pieces made specifically for this show!!!

MARCH 9-11
“Toylanta”
(Marriott Century Center – Atlanta GA)

This weekend, I will be attending an event called TOYLANTA (aka Joelanta, aka The Great Atlanta Toy Convention) for the first time with a few buddies. According to the website “For more than a decade, Joelanta has been an annual event bringing toy collectors and pop culture enthusiasts from across the country together in Atlanta to celebrate the joys of toys and friendship! Not only will you find vendors selling a variety of vintage and modern toys such as GI Joe, Barbie, Mego, Transformers, Star Wars, Super Powers, Masters of the Universe, a wide variety of 1:6 scale figures and accessories plus magazines, comic books & lunch boxes; but you’ll also have an opportunity to meet celebrities, see costumers and check out a variety of toy dioramas!”

Sooo… Is There a Scene HERE?

With both of these events I hope to see what sort of designer and bootleg art toy “scene” there might be in this area. In hosting the “ART/TOY” event at JOKER JOKER Gallery I’m trying to find and reach out to the local fans and collectors (if any) here in Athens, hoping to find those who are interested in viewing and/or purchasing this sort of art! Maybe we can start having other bigger and better shows in the near future, and possibly even bringing some hot names from this urban underground art form into town! You can help by inviting your friends to come out with you and support these artists!

Going out to Atlanta for the Toylanta event on the other hand, I’m hoping to discover, meet, and talk with other artists and collectors in the North Ga and surrounding areas…. as well as considering whether this convention is something I would like to be involved with myself. Maybe even going as far as setting up a booth next year… we’ll see.

If you plan to attend either of these event, look for me and say HI, then let’s talk art toys! I may even have some of my most recently available figures with me to sell or trade… See you there!
